What Is A Hazardous Material?
Simply put, a hazardous material (HazMat) is any substance capable of causing harm to people,
property, and/or the environment. A Haz-Mat incident involves the actual or potential release
of hazardous materials. Hazardous materials include: explosives, gases (compressed, liquified,
or dissolved), flammable liquids, flammable solids, oxidizers, poisonous and infectious substances,
radioactives, and corrosives. Hazardous materials may be found in the home, the workplace and in
all types of transportation.
