All equipment used shall be a type approved by the Chief of the Plainville Fire Department or his designee.

All systems shall be direct current (dc), twenty-four (24) volts, fully supervised, battery standby
fire alarm system.

A dedicated branch alternating current (ac) circuit will be provided for the fire alarm system with
breaker lock and identified as "red."

The batteries used with the fire alarm control panel shall be capable of operating the panel and
devices for sixty (60) hours with a five (5) minute ringdown at the end of the sixty (60) hour
period.

The stand-by batteries as well as the charging system shall be supervised.

All fire alarm control panels shall be predominately "red" in color and have a white label with the words "FIRE ALARM CONTROL PANEL"
on the front of the panel with a minimum four (4) inch letter size. No other functions shall be
allowed in the panel. Emergency lighting sufficient for a minimum of ninety (90) minutes shall be
provided to light the main control cabinet area. If the FACP panel is located in a separate or
concealed space, a sign shall be provided on the door to the space. The sign shall be "red" with white lettering at least four (4) inches high and shall
read "FIRE ALARM SYSTEM."

Upon activation of alarm devices, the fire alarm control panel (FACP) shall indicate the zone of
activation, trip the master box, operate any special devices such as automatic door closer, outside
strobes and elevator recall etc..

The Chief of the Plainville Fire Department or his designee may require that systems installed in highrise,
educational, handicapped or health care facilities shall allow the installation of visually illuminated
evacuation signals. These signals will stay illuminated after the alarm silence switch is operated and will
remain illuminated until the system is reset.

A trouble silence switch shall silence the trouble audible signal while the trouble visual signal
shall remain illuminated.

The trouble silence switches shall have a ringback feature to supervise correct switch position.
|

Trouble signals shall have a resound provision.
|
| 5- 9.3 |
When a switch is "silenced," any subsequent alarms from another device shall resound the evacuation signals.

All control panels shall have a trouble silence switch and a reset switch.

Detection devices located in concealed areas shall have remote indicators or their location will be
permanantly marked in a manner acceptable to the Chief of the Plainville Fire Department or his designee.

All fire alarm control panels shall be capable of isolating the zone in alarm and restoring the
remaining zones in the system. The fire alarm control panel/panels shall be located as close as
possible to the main entrance of each building. The panel or panels will be in clear view or the
location will be clearly marked by an illuminated sign. A remote annunciator will be provided.

All installation of equipment will be in a neat and workman like manner.

All wiring shall be in accordance with the Massachusetts Electrical Code, National Fire Protection
Association Seventy-Two (72) Series, International Municipal Signal Association and all local codes.

Wiring to all devices will be supervised so that an open ground fault will activate the system
trouble signal.

Fire alarm control panel/panels will have zone labeling on outside door with zone lamps mounted on
an inside panel shall also have zone labeling on the inside of door of the panel to indicate zones
and locations when door is open.

All non-key operated switches shall be enclosed within locked cabinets with the Plainville Fire
Department having keys to all fire alarm systems within the building.

All wiring will be M/C fire alarm cable or metallic conduit.

All pull boxes and junction box covers, as well as six (6) inches of any conduit or cable entering or leaving
a junction box or pull box will be painted "red."

No wiring will run exposed.

Alarm horns shall be of the combination horn/strobe light type. Alarm horns shall be used for no
other purpose and shall be of such character and so located as to be effectively heard above all
other sounds in every area of the building, also to be seen and heard by all occupants in every area
of the building.

In bedroom areas, alarm sounding levels must be at least fifteen (15) dba's above average ambient
room noise levels of approximately seventy (70) dba's at pillow level.

Heat and smoke detector spacing shall not exceed the linear maximum indicated for that particular
device by the Underwriters Laboratories, Inc.or Factory Mutual Reasearch Corp., approved testing
laboratory and National Fire Protection Association Seventy-Two (72) Series pamphlet.

In locations where heat detectors are required, the type and/or temperature rating of the detector
as required by the state building or fire code, may be modified by the Chief of the Plainville Fire
Department or his designee if, in his/her judgment, the type or temperature setting of the unit is
unsuitable due to environmental conditions unique to that location.

Smoke detectors will only be allowed in bedrooms, hallways and at base level of each stairway
throughout the building.
|
| 5-18.3 |
Smoke detectors within fifteen (15)feet of any bath or kitchen area will be a photoelectric
detector.
|

In multi apartment buildings, each section will be on its own zone. Each unit within that section
will be tied into an annunciator panel. Strip malls shall be zoned by address of each unit.

No heat, smoke, sprinkler or other fire detection or suppression system zone shall cover more than
one (1) floor.

All exterior exitways and each exit from each floor shall have a pull station within five (5) feet
of the exitway.

All pull stations and horn units shall be predominately "red" and labeled "FIRE".

Supervised city/town disconnect switches are "NOT ALLOWED" on fire alarm control panels.

All places of assembly and all structures housing twenty-four (24) or more living units shall
require a voice fire alarm system with slow whoop evacuation signal.

All elevators shall be connected to the fire alarm system. All elevator lobbies, at each level, the
elevator equipment room and elevator shaft shall have a heat detector which connects to the elevator
control system. Heat detector activation in an elevator lobby shall prevent the elevator from
stopping and/or opening at that level. The system shall be wired so that in the event of activation
of two (2) lobby heat detectors the elevator shall open at a designated level. Elevator recall
systems shall reset with the resetting of the elevator by the Firefighters key control panel. All
heat detectors shall be connected to the appropriate zone of the building fire alarm system.

All elevators shall have a firefighters control key. All emergency telephones located in an elevator
shall have a permanent sign indicating the building address.

All stove/fryolator hood extinguishing systems shall have their own dedicated zone to the fire alarm
control panel and shall activate the alarm system and disconnect the fuel supply to the stove/fryolator
if discharged. All electric power to the hood will also be disconnected on activation.

When a stove/fryolator hood extinguishing system is installed in a unit under section 5-18.D, the
hood will be tied into the tenant space zone.

All alarm activations will remain in the alarm mode until silenced by Plainville Fire Department
personnel only. "NO EXCEPTIONS!!!"

No one will work on a fire alarm system without notifying the Plainville Fire Department. A
twenty-four (24) hour notice is required. Except in an "EMERGENCY" situation.

All fire alarm installations shall include the regulations under the American Disability Act.
